The fellers at the Jardine Ranch, a medium-sized spread growing almonds just outside of Paso Robles, take their barbequin real serious. So serious, by gosh, that nothin' won't do but to go to all the fuss and bother of making their own charcoal. That way they knows there ain't none of them there petrochemicals added to mess up the taste of the big tri-tips they like to do thereabouts. Growin' almonds as they was, they had plenty of almond wood lyin' about- and the boys discovered that it made the best darned charcoal that any of them had ever seen. It lit easy and burned hot as the dickens- helped sear in those flavors that barbequin's all about. Seemed to give it a special flavor to boot. Word spread, as it does in these parts- and folks became so set on trying some of this here almond charcoal, that the boys got together in self-defense and started makin' up bags of the stuff for the locals just to keep the peace. Today, by golly, you can find it in places like this fine establishment, and folks are might glad about that. Get a bag and try it out- you'll be happier than a badger in a berry patch.
